Kokoda Barracks Water Treatment Plant, Canungra

The project involved the construction of a new water treatment facility for the Kokoda Army Barracks located at Canungra, south of Brisbane. In addition to the construction of an integrated cluster of concrete structures, the scope of works included site clearing, earthworks, pipework, and the installation of an interrelated and highly complex network of electrical, hydraulic and mechanical systems.

Set over 7,300m2 of bushland, the facility has been designed with the environment in mind. Prior to construction, Paynter Dixon commissioned detailed environmental reports to minimise harm to the surrounding wetlands and local platypus habitat. Furthermore, ozone generation equipment is used to treat the raw water to eliminate algae and contaminants. The facility delivers more than 2 megalitres of treated water per day but was effectively masterplanned to allow future expansion and increase output to 4 megalitres per day.
